A proud Air Force Veteran, Stephen Coycault has been impacting the lives of Precinct2gether seniors for over 20 years. He partners with like-minded groups to advocate for seniors and provide opportunities to keep them engaged in their communities. As the TRIAD Director for Harris County Precinct 2, Stephen educates seniors on how to stay aware and avoid being taken advantage of through fraud and abuse.

He believes in the Precinct2gether Senior Program mission of encouraging social and physical activity among senior citizens to better guide them to remain contributing and viable forces in their community.

He has always felt a strong need to get involved and make a difference in the lives of senior citizens; but it wasn’t until he became a caregiver himself, to his wife of 63 years, Marilyn, as her health began to decline, that he really understood how important it is for seniors to have a voice.

He has also been a volunteer At Large Member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL), which represents Harris County Senior Citizens 60 and over, for 13 years. During his tenure with TSHL, he made a significant impact on the lives of seniors and was the first TSHL member to secure a tax freeze for elderly and disabled home owners in 2004. From 2004 through 2017, he was successful in securing the property tax freeze within Harris County Precinct 2, including Pasadena, Morgan Point, Baytown, Deer Park, LaPorte, Lee College of Baytown, Seabrook, South Houston, Shore Acres, and Denton, Texas. Stephen also successfully increased the senior homestead exemption for Houston, Katy, and San Jacinto College.

Precinct2gether senior citizens know that Stephen is someone that they can turn to for advice and someone they can trust. As TRIAD Director for Precinct 2, which is a partnership between senior citizens, law enforcement and the community, Stephen conducts monthly meetings at East Harris County Activity Center teaching classes on How to Avoid Identity Theft, Scams, Fraud and Elder Abuse. He also educates homeowners on how to apply for their over 65 and over exemptions from appraisal districts and how to effectively protest their taxes.

Stephen has made a difference in the lives of so many senior citizens from spending time educating them, to working on policies that impact their daily lives and saving them money.

He has played an integral role with the Pasadena Meals on Wheels program reducing the program’s waiting list from 300 to only 50 persons. Currently, Stephen is on the Advisory Planning Council for Area Aging. Stephen is also a volunteer spokesmen for Honor Flight Houston, which honors Veterans by taking them on a free two day trip to Washington, D.C. In addition, Stephen works with Precinct 2 veterans and assists widows with acquiring any assistance in which they may qualify. Stephen also provides free income tax preparation to Precinct 2 seniors.

Many of the Precinct2gether seniors comment that Stephen is doing “God’s work” and that they know he is always on their side and working diligently in their best interests. As a patriot, senior citizen advocate, trusted community leader and loving husband and father, Stephen Coycault is a walking example of Precinct2gether Senior Citizen’s mission.
